The Office of Political, UN and Congressional Affairs builds and maintains relations with U.S administrations and the U.S Congress, the UN, the general public, Communities, Capacity Building Organizations, and with International and governmental organizations in the United States of America. Furthermore, this department works on promoting the constitutional mandate given to the Ministry of Regional Cooperation by the Government of Southern Sudan Constitution of 2005, article 46.

The Political Officer promotes Southern Sudan National Interests in many areas, interacts with foreign embassies and entities, and conveys official communications from the Government of Southern Sudan to host country officials, and representatives of multilateral organizations.
