JUBA – Secretary General of the United Democratic Salvation Front (UDSF) Ater Ayiel Wolgol announced Saturday that he had tendered in his resignation from the UDSF and joined the Sudan Peoples’ Liberation Movement (SPLM).

Wolgol, a sitting MP in the South Sudan Legislative Assembly for the UDSF explained his reasons for quitting the party in a Political Declaration publicized during a news conference he held at the headquarters of the SPLM’s Southern Sector on Saturday.

“I Hon. Ater Ayiel Wolgol, have decided with effect from today the date of Feb 13, 2010 to relinquish my political participation, loyalty and activities with UDSF but, in a big way to joining the SPLM as the favorite political party for me and other comrades within it,” said the 41 year-old MP from Yirol East County in Lakes State in a statement.

Wolgol explained that his decision to join the SPLM was partly in response to SPLM Chairman Comrade Salva Kiir’s “appeal for reconciliation and unity of the SPLM and peoples of South Sudan” and “in the interest of unity of our peoples and struggle.”

He added that as a result of this development, he had decided to withdraw his nomination on UDSF ticket as a candidate for a geographical constituency seat in the South Sudan Legislative Assembly (SSLA) and support the SPLM’s candidate for the same seat, Cde Gordon Matot Tut.

Wolgol further pledged to support the nominations of SPLM candidates for the positions of president of the republic, president of the Government of South Sudan and governor for Lakes States.

“Thus, in the SPLM, I shall remain to serve in any capacity the SPLM’s vision of freedom, peace and all round prosperity.

“I appeal to my colleagues in southern political parties to join SPLM,” the statement concluded.

It’s worth mentioning that Wolgol resigned from the UDSF in a resignation letter to the UDSF chairman dated February 11, 2010.
