Source: SPLM Today JUBA– Elizabeth Acuei Yol Kuol, a senior figure in Dr. Lam Akol’s organization announced Saturday she had broken ranks with Dr. Akol and rejoined the SPLM under the leadership of Comrade Salva Kiir Mayardit. “I am grateful to announce to you all today that I have now decided to return back to the SPLM party,” Kuol said in a statement. She made the declaration at a news conference she held at headquarters of the SPLM Southern Sector in Juba.
Kuol, who hails from Twic in Warrap State, explained that she joined Dr. Akol after attending a conference he organized in Khartoum last September to formally launch his newest political organization, which Kuol said had been a pretty bad move. “My decision to attend that conference was a miscalculation, and now I hope it had not happened, as it almost tarnished my record of service to my people through the SPLM over the past two decades,” she pointed out. Kuol expressed apology to her people, the SPLM and its leader Cde Salva Kiir for having allowed herself to be mislead by Dr. Akol and his fellow travelers. “I am sincerely sorry for the possible distress and disappointment my actions might have caused to our leader,” Kuol said. She added that several things had convinced her beyond doubt that the SPLM was the right party for the Sudanese people: Firstly, she said, “the SPLM is the only genuine political party that is struggling for the freedom of our people, irrespective of gender, race or religion.” Secondly, Kuol continued, “the SPLM has the ability to hold the opponents of peace and liberty, to ensure that CPA (Comprehensive Peace Agreement) is fully implemented and referendum is guaranteed for our people of South Sudan and Abyei Administrative Area. She added that the other reason for her decision to return to the fold was the “unwavering commitment by the SPLM to its policy of affirmative action on women empowerment, demonstrated SPLM good quality.” Kuol was most recent senior official from Dr. Akol’s organization to abandon him and join the SPLM. |
