Source: Miraya FM The United States raised concern on Tuesday over the increase of the flow of heavy weapons into southern Sudan. US Ambassador to the United Nations, Susan Rice said the United States is working closely with the UN mission in Sudan and the Sudanese government to guarantee security in the south in order to carry out the upcoming elections. Rice added that concern was raised about the source of the weapons, which she said may have originated deliberately from northern Sudan. The issue came up during a briefing presented on Tuesday by the UN Undersecretary General for Peacekeeping Operations, Alain Le Roy, before the Security Council on Sudan.
